5 Steps to Six Sigma (DMAIC)

Six Sigma is a methodology used to improve processes by reducing variation and eliminating defects. It provides a structured, data-driven approach to increasing efficiency and quality.

Six Sigma projects typically follow a five-phase improvement process known as DMAIC. These principles can be applied across a wide range of industries and processes.

  1. Define
Define the problem, project goals, process, and customer requirements.
  2. Measure
Collect relevant data and establish baseline performance metrics to understand the current process.
  3. Analyze
Examine the data to identify patterns, relationships, and root causes of defects or inefficiencies.
  4. Improve
Develop, test, and implement solutions to address root causes and improve the process.
  5. Control
Monitor the improved process using ongoing measurements to ensure sustained performance and prevent regression.
